meet melissa!
the travel blogger
I’m so happy you’re here
I am so excited to e-meet and tell you more about myself and how this mindful travel blog came to live. Short story about me – I’m Melissa, a 20-something year old adventurous soul who loves exploring remote areas, connecting with nature and care for this earth. I am a traveller at heart who can’t wait to explore this earths beauty.
And that’s also the reason why I became passioned about slow travel and living. I love this beautiful earth, I love the breathtaking nature, the mesmerizing animals, the many cultures we hold and I want to preserve this for future generations to come. I also love the slow and small moments like sunsets, sunrises, rainbows, coffee dates with friends and reading a book in the sun.
I studied Tourism Management where I learned more about sustainability and I’m currently working as a content marketeer in the travel industry. Next to this, I also have my social media management and copywriting business Socialissa. If you want to read more about slow living, head to my slow living blog Rosy Melissa.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
the start of a slow travel blog
I was about 10 years old when I discovered my love for writing. Alone in my bedroom, I started drafting stories that ended up being hundreds of pages long. It became my way of expressing my feelings and slowly evolved into my passion, my way of expressing my creativity. Writing was and is my first love. After many years of keeping my writing to myself, I decided to start this travel blog in 2018 at 21. It combined my passion for writing, traveling and later on my passion for photography. The one big passion project that still makes me extremely happy. Just a regular travel blog at the beginning, but it became a more mindful one after my trip to Bali in 2018.
It was my first time to Asia and I completely fell in love with the continent, but also realized the struggles of the locals, the nature and different stakeholders. The contrast between the huge shopping mall and the locals trying to sell their own stuff in the street next to it felt weird to me. I realized that I wanted to focus on helping travellers create a positive impact. To shop locally, not in a huge shopping mall. To stay in locally owned accommodations to support the country. To learn tips on how to travel more sustainably in a very easy way. And how to fall in love with slow traveling, to learn the cultures, taste the local food and meet the amazing locals at the same time.
